Astorga to El Acebo

Still having Wifi issues so just another short post. Splurged and stayed at a nice hotel last night, went to see the cathedral, then out for a dinner of Cocido Maragata, it is a local specialty, a stew, little did we know it was served in 4 courses. Delicious but way to much food.

We only planned on going 26 km to Foncebaden but arrived at 1 ish, the weather was beautiful so we carried on, besides Cruz de Ferro was only 3 km away and we wanted to leave our stones. Cruz de Ferro is the iron cross that marks 3/4 of the way to Santiago, its also the place that one leaves a stone or a memorial and marks the end of a time of life and the beginning of a new life. Sharon left a stone with dragonflies on it that was given to her by her mother- in-law Phyllis who passed away two years ago, she would have been thrilled for us to have this trip, it is also our way to leave a bit of her there. Blair left an agate from Crescent Beach.

Cruz de Ferro is at the top of the mountain and the next closest town that is habitable is El Acebo, 13 km down the mountain. So down we went it was absolutely glorious and we lucked into a 4 month old alburgue that is like a resort so well worth the long day!
