Logrono to Granon...2days two different landscapes

Yesterday we left Logrono around 6:30 am and the people were still partying from the night before while the city workers were hosing down the streets in preparation for the marathon. A day full off vineyards and olive groves. It was a long day so we treated ourselves to a hotel even though we had booked an alburgue. Turns out that the hotel owner also owned the alburgue so it worked well. Today just a few vineyards until over the hill and THEN it looked like Saskatchewn!

Unfortunately it is hard to see the steady stream of peregrinos they are not sure why there are so many of us this September

We are wondering how many days of this we will have as we head to the plains.

Leaving Najerra, looks like we will get some rain and we did, slugged through the red clay paths, just like Saskatchewn gumbo, cleared up and was hot

We had lunch in a great town today that is keeping all the old facades but modernizing all the buildings. There also looks like a failed modern townhouse development around a golf course.

We are in the " hippie" alburgue here in Granon in a very old building should be interesting, will let you know next blog!

In the centre of Granon is an old church (early 15th century). It is sitting amongst the other buildings in town. Not really overly impressive. But inside was amazing. Incredible architecture and sculpture.

One of the interesting things about the Camino is the people you meet and where they are from. There seems to be lots of Canadians out here now. We have LOTS of BC ers, and have met people from Alberta, Sask, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Today in the pouring rain we walked for a while with a couple from Salmon Arm and later we walked with an Argentinian who lives in D.C. but works for a helicopter engineering company and travels regularly to Delta. This is his second Camino, he did the northern route the first time and did it in honour of his wife who had breast cancer, this time he is doing it to say thank you as his wife came through the breast cancer well. Another couple from Britain are walking it in honour of their daughter who committed suicide and are raising money for Papyrus. Lots of interesting stories.

Erratum: In our last blog we talked about the Tour of Spain passing under us truth was - it wasn't. The Tour of Spain WAS through here a week or so ago. This was something different I guess. Was interesting to watch!
